This editorial recommends that B’s government needs to regulate retail milk prices because the farmers are continuting to   get excessive profits. The editorial also recommends that the regulation will be benefitical for ensuring an adequate supply of milk and lower prices. To support his recommendation he points out a facts that during the past ten years   the number of dairy farms throughout the country has increased by 25% , while the price of milk at local market has increased by 100%. However, clearly scrutiny of each of these facts, reveals that none of them lends credible support to these recommendation.

First of all, the author assumes that the price of   Excello Food Market   cannot reflected average genral. However, the author provides no evidence that this is the case. If E’s price of milk was lower than the average of price of the nationwide the author’s argument for government regulation of milk prices is unsubstantiated. Secondly, even if E’s milk price reflected the nationwide averages, the author further assumes that farmers are receiving excessive profits from the growing supplyment of milk on the basis that the milk price has already increased by 100%. While the increased price of milk not always result in higher profits. It is entirely possible that other costs such as transportations has risen as well in the past ten years. In short, the author cannot make any sound assumptions on that base.

Thirdly , the author equates greater space of dairy farms with increasingly supply of milk, however, is not necessarily in that case. It is entirely possible that the dairy farms are producing other dairy products rather than milk, and that leads to a decline on milk. If so , this facts will further undermine the author’s recommendation of regulations of government.

Finally, the author asserts that the regulation of government will be helpful to ensure an adequate supply of milk for consumers ,which ignore the possibility that milk merchant may...
